(Community Matters 28) Renk 1964-2023: Special Tribute Program Coming Together to Salute Longtime Radio Host

First Aired April 22, 2023

David Renkiewicz had been a successful businessman. But, he had a dream to become a radio talkshow host. He listened a lot; even called in to Battle Creek's WBCK during some local shows.

That was the start what led to a 16-year career on the air as “Live with Renk” – and, eventually, a simulcast in Kalamazoo and Lansing. He stepped away from radio in 2022 to work for 42nd District Representative Matt Hall (R-Richland Township).

Renk passed away April 17, 2023 after a short cancer fight.

In this episode, former WBCK Brand Manager Tim Collins talks about how that call-in as a listener led to Renk becoming a radio host, an unusual way to find future radio talent. Lakeview Ford's Vince Pavone also discusses Renk's appeal from a listener perspective.

A future tribute to Renk is being planned which will air on WBCK in the near future.
